We helped out a little at this charity event. I thought it would be really cool to show off how the night went. This is what they had to say to us for our participation:

Hi Yoshi & Tattoo Box!
Thank you so much for supporting independent media with your prize donation, and helping us raise over $3800 for the station, including $1748 for the NDG Food Depot. The raffle draw/party happened on Friday January 7th, 2011,at Club Lambi, and was attended by over 200 people. Admission to the event was a non-perishable for the NDG Food Depot, which totaled over 5 bins of food!
We couldn’t have done this without the support of amazing businesses like yours, so once again, thank you!!
We look forward to collaborating again with you soon,
Until then, don’t hesitate to contact us if you need anything!

Thank you to CJLO.COM, Julie, Dave, and  Congratulations to Our new friends and winners:

Tattoo Box Mentioned in Bizarre Magazine.

One of our clients, Jeremie, from here in Montreal was approached by Bizarre Magazine for his tattoo of famous artist Édouard Manet’s friend, Berthe Morisot as she looked when he painted her in 1874. Yoshi did this tattoo for Jeremie over the summer of 2010. The magazine didn’t even let the tattoo finish healing before throwing him into their spotlight. Good job Jeremie. Sorry it took so long to repost this.

Tattoo Box mentioned in USAToday Newspaper Jan 11, 2011.

I was so excited to find this out today. Our visiting client Erin, from Washington DC, paid us a great compliment by sending her tattoo picture into USA Today. USA Today is a national newspaper in the US. They have a program called “Tattoo Tuesdays” and featured Erin and Yoshi of  Tattoo Box. Come see her tattoo and the article here.

WikiLeaks vigilante war spills onto Web, Tattoo Box is still safe.

The WikiLeaks genius has found unknown allies and some that may be unwanted. Thanks to Bob Sullivan, too bad you are working for the wrong side. Hey, Bob call the Daily Show and ask for a writer job.

I have little to comment on Bob’s article but the follow up support that is too large in the reviews section making it very hard to ignore. Mr. Assange is 100% right. He’s an anarchists of sorts but he doesn’t have any  blame how things are in chaos. The US Gov, Banks, Mastercard and Visa can hardly defend themselves for the chaos they have spread across the globe. I watch these news reports that he is wanted for whatever and the press(fox news, msnbc, etc) makes it all sound like a bad X-Files script. The war of hackers is something out of the matrix as well. It’s all petty tripe. Mr. Assange is not the man of our dreams, nightmares or movies. He is a man who has taken responsibility of fixing a grand disservice of the world. The rise of a fascist banking and military power in the US,European Union,UK and Commonwealth. There are thousands of like minded individuals, some homebodys and some internationalists like Assange. They don’t all have a voice that can be measured or counted or money to back up that voice, but they do have skills. Hacking is a skill and an art-form. I wish I had this facet in my own arsenal. To a solid end, the use of this skill to disable bank’s websites and cost them money for downtime is brilliant. I deal with banks daily and know a transfer here or there means the bank is making money off of me. somebody should take the initiative to waste the time and make me back the few dollars a day I lose in fees. ~ Yoshi, www.tattooboxmontreal.com/blog

Tattoo Stencils

Tattoo Stencils or Acetate Stencils are a thin piece of plastic, vinyl or celluloid that were cut with a knife, a stylus, heavy gauge sewing needle, 78-record needle, a drafting compass needle, or even a tattoo machine with a sharpened needle bar. They were then dusted with charcoal or hectograph ink and applied to moistened skin. The result was a simple design stamped onto the skin for a tattoo artist to follow with a tattoo machine. This was the mainstay of the tattoo business for easily 80 years. The Scythians and the Iban tribes of Bornio used similar methods of marking the skin in preparation of tattooing but used carved wood or cloth. Late in the 1970s, tattoo artists in the US discovered a simple way to transfer designs using a machine that could not be any further from tattoo traditions but at the same time did exactly what was necessary to make the mark needed for the tattoo. The Thermal-fax eventually fazed out all other stencil techniques. Now less and less of the world’s new artists know of these Acetate Stencils. There is a small society of artists today who still trade and sell these relics. We at Tattoo Box are in this small community. I enjoy trading these stencils the same way old time tattoo artists did. I trade for new tattoo art for our studio, I trade for paintings, I trade for tattoo machines and I trade for cash. Shanghai Kate Hellenbrand Has a massive collection for sale on her site. She sells many celluloid stencils from Sailor Jerry. Ulysses Ronquillo has created a great index of stencils and vintage tattoo designs. Don Chuck Carvalho also has created something unique, a blog on vintage stencil and flash design. All are amazing resources for tattoo artists and collectors. You should really check them all out. As for my collection, I have sold and traded hundreds of these over the years but I am still up to my eyeballs in vintage stencils. If you would like to purchase some of these please contact me at the info below.

I can except paypal and money orders. With Paypal I send immediately, US money orders take a week to clear though. You can paypal me at i38dd@hotmail.com And money orders can be sent to Tattoo Box 3751 Rue De Bullion, Montreal, Quebec, H2W1N9 or call me 514-759-6806 12-8 Eastern time.

Rickrolled!

Yes it is true. We play 80′s music all day at the shop and on occasion clients have been Rickrolled as a result. For those who do not know, “Rickrolled” means you got suckered into listening to Rick Astley’s “Never gonna give you up” or you got suckered into reading the lyrics. See Wiki It has not been so bad though. Our radio station of choice(well, my choice) is Absolute 80s. Absolute 80s will Rickroll the average listen about once per day. Not too bad of odds. So those in fear of this need not worry. Out of the 500-ish songs in their ridiculously short playlist, “Never gonna give you up” becomes more like Rick-Russian-Roulette-Rollin’.
